Fellow Ozians will be rejocified once they learn of the recent Wicked Funko pop releases. Funko has announced a pre-order of Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth’s “Wise Women” duo Funkos from the Oscar nominated and box-office breaking musical film Wicked. The film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, which is an adaptation of the book of the same title by Gregory Maguire.
Wicked tells the story of Glinda “The Good Witch” and Elphaba “The Wicked Witch of the West” from The Wizard of Oz before Dorthy blew in on a twister.
Wicked has been breaking records for 20 years. The musical first opened on Broadway in January 2003 with Chenoweth and Menzel originating the roles of Glinda and Elphaba
Since then the musical has taken the world by storm as the fourth longest running show on Broadway.
Die hard fans of the musical squealed online (and in theaters) when they saw the original Elphaba and Glinda make a surprise cameo on the big screen.
The cameos remained a surprise up until the opening of the film. Which is very impressive given how often things leak. The two are featured in the song “One Short-Day”. The sound-track released on the same date as the movie release date, which may have been how the cameos remained a secret.
After the musical opened Chenoweth and Menzel shared some behind the scene images of the recording of their scenes on social media with the caption “It’s good to see us wasn’t it.” A refrence to the opening lines of Glinda the Good in the musical.
Now fans can add the Wise Women to their collections. Fans interested in purchasing the $25 Wicked 2-pack can purchase them on the Funko site but the pre-sale is available for a limited time through March 7. Pops are expected to ship out in August 2025.
