Netflix Sandman Returns for One Last Dance in Series Finale

If you are a fan of mythology, especially Greek mythology, Sandman season 2 is for you.

In a recent advance screener provided by Den of Geeks, we at Rebelle Geek had the opportunity to view the very first episode. Here is our spoiler free preview of episode 1.

Sandman is based on a comic book of the same name originally written by Niel Gaiman and published by DC Comics. Netflix secured the rights to produce a television series in June 2019. The first season premiered August 2022.

If, like me, you haven’t seen the first season since its original premier, don’t worry it’s ok. Episode one of season two builds off of the characters introduced in season one, but quickly explains who each character is, and their relationship to each other. Even if you haven’t seen season one in three years, you won’t be lost.

Season 2 sets up a completely different story with the same characters. By the looks of episode one, season 2 will focus heavily on mythology, especially the story of Eurydice and Orpheaus.

Season 2 will also give us a deeper look into Morpheus, the King of Dreams played by Tom Sturridge, and his siblings the Endless. The Endless are all god-like creatures that reign over us humand, Destiny (Adrian Lester), Desire (Mason Alexander Park), Despair (Donna Preston), Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Delirium (Esmé Creed-Miles), and Destruction (Barry Sloan)––a sibling who in the comics abandoned his realm 300 years ago.

Overall the first episode is engaging and has the same magic and intriguing storytelling the first season had. In addition to the endless we are also reintroduced to the same players from season one, like Lucifer Morningstar played by Gwendoline Christie. We will meet other characters that are meaningful for the destiny of Morpheous.

Season 2 will be the final season of Sandman. This season will have 12 episodes. Netflix will not release all episodes at once. Instead we will get episodes 1-6 July 3rd at 12 AM PDT, episodes 7-11 at 12AM PDT July 24, and episode 12 July 31 at 12AM PDT.
